The sneakers often feature wild unique designs done by former patients of the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. The Air Jordan 5 Retro Low was one of the most recent sneakers to receive the Doernbecher treatment. Designed by Michael “Spitfire” Wilson, an 11 year old diagnosed with Krabbe disease. Michael loves airplanes, sharks, and mac & cheese, so naturally the Air Jordan 5 was a great sneaker for Michael to put his twist on. This unique Air Jordan 5 Retro Low features a nubuck upper with royal blue, orange, green and red panels. The royal blue panels features a mac & cheese graphic print, which represents Michael’s love for mac & cheese. The translucent TPU mesh inserts features a laser eye underneath the lateral side representing Michael’s super power of choice. The tongue is blue with a translucent TPU mesh overlay with a black chenille upper for interchangeable patches that come with the sneaker. The royal blue laces feature a macaroni & cheese dubrae and translucent lace-locks. The midsole is white with red shark teeth, giving a nod to Michael’s love for sharks, and also features an air-unit in the heel, while the outsole is translucent in the front and back. The lateral heel features TAKE FLIGHT branding while the rear heel features an embroidered Jumpman logo with Michael’s initials, MDW embroidered underneath. The back also features a pull-tab with a “pull to eject” design. The inside lining features a red and royal blue print design with an AIR MICHAEL tag along the tongue and yellow insoles.
